The Key to Success “ON THE COURSE”
As a competitive tournament player and student of this great game for over twenty-five years, I have learned that there are many elements to the golf game that are important for a successful time on the golf course. It’s imperative to have solid “pre-shot”fundamentals – Stance, Posture, Grip, Ball Position and Alignment. It’s also important to have a good sense of mechanics and how your body works. Equally, it’s a good idea to engage in a physical fitness program that includes stretching. But, more evident in today’s teaching is the importance of understanding golf psychology – specific mental techniques that help you manage your emotions and decision making before, during and after a round of golf.
But, when it’s time to tee it up, how do you put it all together? How do we switch from practicing to performing? The answer is through VISUALIZATION.
Here’s how it works: Three simple words – SEE, FEEL, DO!
SEE: When preparing to hit your shot, create a picture in your mind of exactly how you want the ball to travel in the air and on the ground.
FEEL: Make a practice swing that creates the shot you just pictured in your mind.
DO: Now, it’s time to trust yourself and your abilities. Step up to the ball and Let it happen.
Repeat this on every shot. Enjoy the process of becoming more creative on the golf course and to “playing” the game. You will have much more fun and you definitely will see your shots improve…and when you’re having trouble be sure consult your local PGA professional.
Continued success!
